Mission Statement The PKES media center engages students in learning opportunities to develop life-long learners who are critical thinkers and caring citizens. We strive to build a diverse collection to support the curriculum and offers a variety of reading materials for library users to read for pleasure and information. The media center aims to promote collaboration, teach effective communication skills and foster creativity.
Classes PKES media center serves students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. The media center is open from 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM. Classes visit the media center as part of the related arts rotation on an assigned color day. Click here to determine the color day your child's class has Media and here for the school's related arts rotation calendar. Students will have a library information skills lesson and check out library books during the 45 minutes class. Some of the skills students will learn are how to use the Dewey Decimals system, book care, how to conduct research, choosing the right source, note taking and how to avoid plagiarism. Lessons are aligned to standards established by the American Association for School Libraries.
Library Books Students in grades 1 - 5 are allowed to check out 2 library books. Kindergarten students may check out 1 book. Students must return his/her library books in order to check out additional books. Any books students damaged beyond repair must be paid for. Books selected for collection adhere to the Fort Mill Schools district’s policy for selection of materials.
